Is a Texas Resident Eligible for a Utah Non-Resident License? Starting May 11, 2011 A Resident of Texas who desires a Non-Resident Utah License must first obtain a Texas CHL. Utah Renewal Candidates must obtain a Texas CHL by January 1, 2012
Why is the Non-Resident Utah CFP not recognized in all 33 states that do Recognize the Utah Resident License? The individual states have passed laws prohibiting anyone with a Non-Resident Concealed Carry License (CHL, CFP, CCW) from being recognized within their state. Those are Colorado, Michigan, New Hampshire, Florida, South Carolina and Maine.
Why even consider getting a Utah Non-Resident CFP? The Utah Non-Resident CFP is recognized in Several states that the Texas CHL is not. Those are Washington State, Ohio and West-Virginia. All other states which recognize the Utah CFP, also Recognize the Texas CHL. Colorado, Michigan, New Hampshire and Florida will not recognize the Non-Resident Utah License.
Are the Texas CHL course and the Utah CFP course run at the same time? No! Both states have regulations for their Instructors which prohibit their courses from being taught concurrently. Both Texas and Utah must be given in separate sessions. If other instructors are not following these rules, they are jeopardizing their instructors license, which could harm you as a student. Be very careful when anyone tells you that 'for an extra fee...." you can obtain another license.
If I hold a Non-Resident Utah License, do I have to obey the Texas Laws governing Concealed Carry? Yes! Whenever the holder of any Concealed Carry license enters another state, the laws of the state which you are in are always to be obeyed. Therefore, as the owner of a Texas CHL or Non-Resident Utah CFP you must make yourself famliar with the laws of the state you are travelling too or residing within. It is your responsibility to read and understand those laws and to keep up with the changes. As a service to our Utah CFP students, the Texas Regulations will be included on your student CD for you to read at your convenience.
